
CLASS LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS
LEVEL 1 (Anyone Can Dance - 6 Weeks)
This class is specifically designed for absolute beginners. In the Anyone Can Dance classes, we focus on the the most important dances you plan to use immediately at a basic level. These fun classes are the first step to becoming a comfortable social dancer. Dances covered are Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba, Modern Swing or Jive.
LEVEL 2 (Social Dancer)
In this level you will continue to build on your foundation learning new patterns and variations as well as a brand new dances!This class develops a good Social Dancer. While introducing footwork and technique students will start to learn how to put patterns together and have a stronger sense of rhythm and timing. Students will generally complete this level in 4 six week semesters. Dances Covered are: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha and Swing.
LEVEL 3 (Dance Enthusiast)
At the completion of this level, students should have a better understanding of lead and follow, holds, posture and connections.You will have freer movement on the dance-floor, while expanding your variety and the characteristics of each dance. This is a more advanced social dancer. Dances Covered are; Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rumba, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing and Mambo.
LEVEL 4 (Love to Dance!)
This is the ultimate goal for an advanced social dancer. This level will make you look and feel more comfortable on the dance-floor regardless of your dance partner. Filled with interesting patterns and technique and lots of variety. Dances covered are: Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Rhumba, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing, Mambo, Bolero and Samba.
COUNTRY - TWO STEP - Level 1
This is for the beginner or dancer with more experience. Dancers will learn the fundamentals of the two step, various steps and variations and techniques to improve their leads and following.
COUNTRY - SIX STEP / NIGHT CLUB / OTHER - Level 1
This is for the beginner or dancer with more experienced interested in learning various other country dances. Dances will change each semester.
WEST COAST SWING
A great class for the beginner or dancer with more experience. Come out and learn one of the most popular dances going! The versatile West Coast Swing is great for dancing to the blues, rock, country, pop and more
INTERNATIONAL
Each month students will work on one of the ten international style dances. The patterns in international require a strong understanding of frame, lead and follow and are also more technical. Students registering in this class should be working at an Intermediate Bronze and above level. However, while the class is ordinarily designed for a more intermediate to advanced dancer, classes may be opened in some months to all students, allowing beginners to advanced students to learn or work on the fundamentals of a particular dance, learning the underlying techniques required, as well as various steps to keep you dancing! Each month, classes will focus on one dance. Dances covered are: Quickstep, Viennese Waltz and International Waltz, Tango and Foxtrot, as well as Paso Doble, Samba, Jive and International Rumba and Cha Cha.
COMPETITIONS
Although not everyone who learns to dance wants to compete, for those who crave that challenge, a combination of the above group classes and private lessons will help you achieve your goal. While most of our students prefer social dancing only, several of our students, of all ages, have very successfully competed in various competitions in Alberta, Canada and the United States in both American and International styles of dance.
